Pawel Brief:On all three artworks I would like to have both main characters from the
movie - Ney'tiri and Jake (in his human body) - shown in a full body mode. I
haven't really thought of a pose for either of them as this is probably
something you would like to do yourself, but these images are supposed
(amongst other things) to show the size difference between both characters.
An average Na'vi is about 10 feet tall (Ney'tiri was slightly shorter than
that, I believe) and Jake was played by Sam Worthington, who measures 5'10".

The purpose of each of these artworks is to show interpersonal connection
between both characters. It could be either a straightforward romantic
image, with Ney'tiri holding her beloved man in her arms, or it could be an
action pic, showing Ney'tiri in one of her trademark "back off from him"
poses, ready to defend her lover. And since she's not the only warrior in
this pair, perhaps she could be carrying him in her arms while Jake's busy
shooting a large automatic rifle?
I imagine there could be a lot of ideas for an artwork like this and I'd
love to see you come up with something nice. The only cryteria to be met
are: the characters are both in love; Ney'tiri is always eager to fiercely
protect Jake; and Jake may be a cripple but not in his heart.

I'm not sure how you feel about more dynamic images (like that idea with
Jake shooting a gun). If you'd rather prefer to do romantic images only, I'm
happy with that. Also, I noticed that portraits seem to be your artistic
specialty - I hope you won't mind working on three full-body pictures?

About the technique - what sort of drawing and colouring style do you think
would work best here? I'm kind of leaning towards the watercolour idea, as
it is often the medium of amazing artistry, but perhaps you'd prefer to work
in something else? These three images will most probably hang on the wall in
our bedroom, framed, one next to another, so watercolours would probably be

All three artworks are to work as a set, if you know what I mean. I'd like
them to be compatible. In both artistic and design meaning. Something that
will look gorgeous when displayed in a group of three. it would
probably be best if all three images were of the same type - full body
scale. But you're the artist, you're the designer. Do you perhaps have
another idea? Do you think maybe one potrait of the lovers and two full body
images would work better? Or some other combination of image types, like one
with Ney'tiri standing with Jake in his arms and another with Ney'tiri
kneeling/crouching next to Jake on his wheelchair? I'd love to know your
opinion on this matter.

To sum it up, my wife really loved two things about Ney'tiri and Jake (in
his human body). The Na'vi girl was tall and strong enough to be the guy's
defender, his protector. But they also loved each other in a very gentle way
and she cared for him a lot, even when she found his frail, crippled "real"
Oh, obviously please remember that we'd need that oxygen mask on Jake's
face. Fortunately it's mostly transparent. I'm attaching a number of pics to
this e-mail - hope they'll prove useful.

    Hi Meisan!
My goodness, I'm delighted to see that you've already started working around all these ideas. Thank you so much! 🙂

Ah, this is truly a gorgeous beginning. The sketch of her face shows some great promise and all the features are definitely going in the right direction. The hair will require some further referencing, I'd say – it would be cool if you could make it more like a mane of thin braids.

Now, in regards to the ideas for poses & positioning on all three images (very cool idea for the WIP pic, by the way)…
Great work here. You're definitely going straight to the target.
    1. The image on the left – pure marvel, nothing to add. Go for it. 🙂 I absolutely love it.
    2. The image in the middle – a bit difficult to see, due to it being an early sketch. But I believe I know where you're going to with the girl's pose. And he's just behind her, which, again, is exactly what we need in this more dynamic image. Here you'll be able to show the 'protection' part of their relationship. Generally – very cool, very swet. Go for it. 🙂
    3. Image on the right – I like the idea of a straightforward full body pin-up, or perhaps shall we call it a portrait. It will definitely fit the trio very nicely. However, in this particular image, even more than it the other two, proper scale and character size differences will be important.

The height of both characters is the only thing I'd like to highlight at this stage, as everything else looks terrific. I'm sure you're aware of this, but I thought I'd just remind: a human, when standing next to a Na'vi woman, would probably reach as high as her waist. A human on a wheelchair wouldn't even reach that high.

So, in case of the image on the right, we're gonna have to think up a wee bit different positioning. Rather next to her leg than to her torso.

And in the middle picture she would probably be best kneeling or croaching.
Anyway, just my thoughts on this particular matter.

Overall though, I love all the three ideas for the images and I can see with my mind's eye how great will the become. …hmm, just had another thought. Are you sure you want to include the title of the movie there? It's just a loose thought, but perhaps the artworks would look nicer without it… The choice is all yours, Meisan – but those will certainly be works of high art, not just movie posters, you know. 😉

Okay, all in all I'm totally amazed. That's a fantastic start… and I apologise if this comment is a wee bit too long.
All the best in the New Year!!!

    Take care,

    Good morning, Meisan.
This all sounds wonderful. Hey, I'd really like to help in finding reference material. Here, have a look at this:
The main movie clip on the page – “Pandora Discovered” shows more than 4 minutes of footage from the movie, focusing mostly on animal life, but showing plants etc. as well.
Also, I'll surf the net looking for more photos and screenshots for you, if only it helps. 🙂 I'll send them over via an e-mail, as I'm not entirely sure how to attach pics to the Disqus comments.

Thank you very much for your continued efforts. 🙂

Amazing! I absolutely love it, Meisan!
You've captured both characters perfectly, in your gorgeous style! Whoo, this is very exciting. 🙂 Terrific job, truly! Jake really looks his part and shows off your style in a fantastic way. And Neytiri is so wonderfully tall, slender and graceful – just as she should be. Wonderful.
Ah, and I really like what you did with the grayscale “colours” on Jake's sketch. I know that you're gonna go full colours on all the final artworks, but even your mono-greyscale-colours are absolutely terrific, if you ask me. 🙂

One detail I should mention – Na'vi have four fingers (three fingers plus thumb) as opposed to five fingers (4+1) in human. Same thing with toes – Na'vi have four (3+1) while humans, obviously, five. 😉 Take a wee look at 'Neytiri-full-body-01-preferred-outfit.jpg' – you can see it there.

Anyway, summing it up: that's a fantastic couple of sketches. I am so excited, Meisan! This is exactly the way to go! Yaaay! 🙂 🙂

I couldn't be happier with the creation process you show me. Watching artists at work is a fascinating thing.
Well, I and my wife have just returned from the cinema, having watched the movie for the 4th time!!!

…I'm gonna have another reference for you, Meisan. This time though, it will be a very efficient one. And I can guarantee you, you will not need anything else – this is going to be an ultimate reference material.
I've just bought for you the following book –
It's got everything in it, any detail you can imagine, drawings, renders, screenshots, descriptions. Every single possible thing one can read about the universe of “Avatar”. I have this very book myself and I can assure you it's a fascinating one.
Anyways, it will probably get to you (I used the address you provide in the 'contact' section) in about two weeks. I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I do! 🙂

Oh, I've just realized one thing today. Might be something you should know. I had to watch the movie 4 times to notice this detail!!! 🙂

Neytiri has only one ear pierced – the right one. I'm sure you've seen her round earring on the screenshots, however, if you look closely, you'll notice that she only wears it in her right ear.
Just a tiny detail I noticed today and thought I'd share. 😉

Ah, I'm so happy you like the movie so much! 🙂 Oooh, and trust me, it's so incredibly amazing in 3D. An entirely captivating experience! You get to fly the beasts and rub shoulders with the natives – the stereoscopic 3D effects make you live the movie as if you were really there!

Oh my goodness, I will be deeply honoured to receive one of your beautiful books! I really appreciate your generosity, Meisan. Thank you so very much. 🙂

    มกราคม 10, 2010 at 7:31 pm

Bless you, Meisan, this is another gorgeous set of sketches! My goodness, I absolutely love them! It will be a very difficult task to choose just three, you know? 😉

Wooow, I totally love the top-left thumbnail. The one with Jake in his Avatar form and Neytiri crouching in front of him. This is definitely a must. It's a brilliant idea, it's full of action, it's amazing. Oh yeah!!! 🙂

The bottom-left thumbnail, with Jake on a wheelchair and Neytiri crouching next to him. Again – brilliant. The scale is perfect and it gives us the opportunity to show off their love and tenderness. They can both touch each other and look at each other. Perfect.
Hmm, I wonder if perhaps Neytiri could be kneeling next to Jake's armchair on both knees, rather than just on one. That could make her look more relaxed and in a romantic mood.
All in all, a fantastic idea and also a definite must.

The top-right thumbnail shows the couple in a pose we really want – they're hugging. 🙂 It's a gorgeous composition and in proper conditions will make a fantastic artwork. However, let's keep the scale in mind. Human is nearly two times smaller than a Na'vi. I'm thinking that to make it right we'll have to have Neytiri lifting/hugging Jake in her arms. Like a baby, though in a romantic way. What do you think?

The bottom-right thumbnail shows the couple in a very sensuous, contemplating way. Dreamy, relaxed. Jake is in his Avatar form, clearly. I like it – it's very delicate, tranquil. 🙂 However, given the fact that we're making three artworks in total and we're gonna have one of them with Jake in his Avatar body already – the top-left thumbnail (I love it!!!) – I'd keep Jake in his human body in the remaining two artworks.

All in all (goodness, I'm such a talker! Apologies, if this comment is too long!!) I really love them all, so, as I said, the choice will be very difficult.

The top-left thumbnail is an absolute must. It's brilliant.
I'd also love to see the bottom-left thumbnail. It's what I imagined when I first decided I'd like to have these artworks done.
I'd love to see the top-right thumbnail realised as well… but let's also remember about the previous bunch of thumbnails – the ones you made a week ago.

Well, how about you, Meisan? Do you have any preferences? I'd stick with the first three from today's update, but I'd love to know your opinion.

Talk to you soon, my friend!!!

I'm very happy to come up with long feedback and detailed comments in regards to your work. It's a true pleasure, really. 🙂

So it is decided. 🙂 The left sketch from the first bunch of thumbnails and the top-left sketch from the second bunch. Wonderful! I couldn't be happier with this conclusion. Now we just have to choose the third picture idea and we're set to go. 🙂

You should definitely be proud of your skills and your art – you have an amazing style and a true talent. I'm delighted I can see you at work. So please, don't be afraid of anything and just let your imagination fly. 🙂

    มกราคม 13, 2010 at 2:12 am

Lovely, they're absolutely lovely, Meisan. Four new sketches and four new jewels to choose from. You're definitely coming up with some wonderful ideas for this set.

However, even though I consider all these thumbnails to be fantastic, the choice I made came quick and is firm. 🙂 The top-right picture – the one you tagged as liked the most – is also my favourite one. It has great positioning and some wonderful opportunities to show off emotions between characters. A wheelchair down there is an excellent idea, although it is up to you whether you want to put it there or not – see what works best for the picture.

I also very much like the other sketches you came up with today. Fantastic job, my friend, really. The bottom-right one is truly magnificent. Wonderful poses and POV. Meisan, these sketches so clearly show off your talent – just a couple of pencil strokes and you get dynamic, proportional figures. It's a real gift, I say! 🙂

And the other two thumbnails are also lovely. Goodness, if only I could, I would have you make twelve pictures like this, not just three. 😉
But for now let's focus on three “only”. 😉 And we now have the full set chosen. The top-left from the first bunch of thumbnails (Neytiri kneeling and hugging human Jake from behind), the top-left from the second bunch (Neytiri crouching – maybe with a knife? And avatar Jake with a rifle behind her) and the top-right pic from the third bunch (Neytiri holding Jake in her arms – a real beauty!).

My goodness, this is so exciting!!! 🙂 I can't wait to see what you'll come up with next time. Thank you very much for all your passion and hard work! This all looks absolutely terrific!!! 🙂

Talk to you soon, Meisan! Have a great day!

    มกราคม 16, 2010 at 1:39 am

    Wow!!! Double wow!!!

Meisan, you've done an amazing job. These initial sketches are absolutely terrific. They've sent my imagination flying – and I must say I'm really, honestly, very satisfied. They're wonderful. Oh, and it's such a great idea to work on all of them at the same time! Thanks to this we can monitor whether they look cool next to each other – and they do, they do very much indeed!!! 🙂

I can already see your plans for all the backgrounds and all the most prominent details of the picture composition. Lovely, absolutely lovely. My goodness, I'm so excited!!! 🙂 On Avatar1 we'll have a very calm, very quiet scene of two lovers enjoying their own thoughts and the tranquility of the forest. On Avatar2 we'll have an incredible action scene. And on Avatar3 we'll have a scene that can still go into a couple of directions, depending on details of body positioning and expressions – Neytiri could be protecting Jake or she could be expressing her love to him…
Okay, but all in proper order. I do have some more specific comments and small suggestions. As much as I love this second step of your creation process – and I totally adore it – I want to help and contribute whatever I can, to make it perfect.

I believe that it's quite important to show the fact that Jake is paraplegic. He's paralized from waist-down. He wouldn't be able to move his legs, if he wasn't lifting them himself, with his own hands.

On picture Avatar1 we could show this better in two ways. We could either straighten both his legs and lie them down on the ground or bent both his legs so that the knees are touching each other (in a similar way as when he sat on his wheelchair). In my opinion the second option would probably look better – more “graceful” and “dignified”.
To better explain what I have in mind, I marked the sketch with some red lines. I'll send you this altered picture, along with several others, via e-mail.
Some slight modifications in leg length might also help, although this is only what I think – please see the altered picture and tell me what you think. 🙂

As for the second picture – the Avatar2 – I can't really think of anything at all that might require corrections or alterations on it. The sketch is absolutely fabulous! It's a masterpiece and I can't wait to see it in full blossom. 🙂

In regards to Avatar3 sketch my thoughts are similar to Avatar1. Neytiri looks perfect, absolutely perfect, and I love the way you draw Jake – however, he may be a little bit too “long” starting at the chest level and going down. His torso and legs are nearly as big as Neytiri's and he looks as if he could lift his leg (even though that leg is just resting on the hammock/tree branch, the illusion might still be misleading). If you could possibly draw both of Jake's legs together, with his knees touching each other, it would look more like paralized legs. And Neytiri could be holding them with her left hand.
So, I drew some red lines on the Avatar3 picture as well, just to illustrate what I have in mind. Both these altered sketches are just suggestions and I'd really love to learn your opinion on what I wrote down. I'm not an artist, so please consider this just a loud thinking. 😉

Anyway, all in all these three sketches are truly amazing. You've really awakened my imagination with them – and I can already see the marvels they'll soon become. I cannot thank you enough for your hard and gorgeous work. I absolutely adore all three pictures… and did I mention how excited I am? 🙂

Ha ha, I'm very happy that you like that little guidebook. You're right, the illustrations aren't too big or too numerous – it's mostly the detailed descriptions that matter there. Still, no worries – I'll keep sending you reference material. Each and everyday I stumble upon interesting screenshots and images on Internet. 😉 Along with the two altered sketches I mentioned, I will send you today a small screenshot showing both Jake and Neytiri from their sides (90 degrees point of view). I figured you might need something like this for Avatar3, for Neytiri's face. And I'm also sending you another screenshot with Neytiri crouching and hissing with a knife in her hand, as I'm unsure yet what sort of expression will you decide to use in Avatar3. Are you going more for a “protector's snarl” or will Neytiri simply be wary of a potential uncoming danger?
Also, as you will put a knife in Neytiri's hand on Avatar2, I'll attach a detailed pic of Neytiri's dagger.
And, I also found a useful pic showing Pandoran jungle, which you might find useful when drawing the backgrounds…

Oh, and as a closing note in this comment – dear Meisan, trust me, it is I who feels lucky to work with you!!! 🙂 You are so kind and friendly and your artistic magic is beyond description!!
    Thank you ever so much!

    มกราคม 17, 2010 at 8:40 pm

    Dear Meisan,

What a gorgeous update! Wow, I'm totally speechless! 🙂
Watching you at work, coming up with a step after step of the creation process, is hugely exciting! It's amazing how much can each of these sketches change during just one of those development steps, even though the sketches are also consistently true to the original idea, no matter the stage of development. You're a very patient and well organized artist, Meisan. 🙂 I find I admire your work more and more – and I've seen your entire gallery and loved it!!!

The background is now more clearly hinted and I really like what I see. The plants in the upper part of the picture and those in the bottom part of the picture both look very Pandoran, very true to the reference material. They also compose perfectly with the tone and the atmosphere of the image.

Ah, thank you so very much for following that idea of mine, to have Jake bend both his legs. I knew it'd look good – and on the image you uploaded today it looks simply brilliant! Great job on the trousers as well. 🙂 Amazing wrinkles on the fabric. 🙂

I can see you've worked a lot on Neytiri's face. It turned out so beautiful, so sad and innocent!!! She looks so sentimental, depressed that she and her lover are separated (due to him being in a human body). You've done some trule gorgoeus details on her – the Na'vi ears, her hair, those bracelets and the tail ornament. 🙂 Amazing job. I also totally adore the hands of both characters – Jake's hand touching Neytiri's wrist, Neytiri's hands on Jake's chest. It's a fantastic artwork, really!!!

Great idea to include Neytiri's dagger in the picture – that reminds the viewer that she's more than what we see. She's a warrior. 😉
Ahh, I really love the way you drew her collarbones and put shades on them. You really know your trade, Meisan!!! 🙂

Hey, I'm intrigued by one thing, though: are you going to flip the image horizontally later on? I just ask because you've pierced Neytiri's left ear and you've put those gorgeous-looking bracelets on her left arm. You've also attached the dagger to the belt on her left hip. I love the idea – those details add so much to the artwork!

Goodness me, I love it so much!!! The background will be pushing the entire focus of the image towards Neytiri's face – which is, what Mucha style is all about, right? Ahh, all those details look absolutely terrific, you've done an incredible job, Meisan!!! I'm so excited! 🙂

…Oh, I just had a thought. The theme of this image is so sombre and delicate – could we possibly have Neytiri's tail express this sort of emotion? Right now it's lifted in the air – one could say it's agitated a bit. But if we could have her tail lying down on the ground, kind of along her leg… don't you think it could look a bit better?

I apologise if I'm making your life harder by adding all these little comments and suggestions for improvement. I'm just so excited by the entire development process! I feel like a jar of boiling water, with a metal lid rattling and dancing on top of it! This image looks so terrific!!!
Thank you so very very much, Meisan!!! You've truly made my day today with this update!!!

Many many many thanks!!! 🙂 Marvellous job!

Hah, here I am, commenting on your wonderful update, and meanwhile you post another step of the development process!!! And it's even more advanced! WOW!!!

It take it back – the tail looks absolutely terrific the way it is. Everything looks absolutely terrific!
Hey, I better post this before you read my previous post.

Okay, here's me again. I'm such a spammer! I keep sending messages today.
Frankly though, it's so quiet at work today – the only thing I really do is sitting on your webpage, Meisan. 😉

Woow, you've added so many details and basically went forward with just about everything! Did I already tell you how much I adore the b&w versions of your art? You do grey shades in a truly awesome way.

Anyways, yup, just to confirm – that tail really looks amazing the way it is. It composes very nicely with the background, with the plants. And the plants – whooo, that's such an amazing job! You have a very keen eye, my friend. They're exactly like in the movie and on the screenshots. 🙂

Hmm, say, are you going to put Jake's exopack mask on, as we originally planned? With that many details on screen and with the b&w colouring already on it might prove difficult… 😉 Great job on his face, by the way. Excellent haircut – straight from the movie. And a very fitting facial expression – sad and contemplating, just like Neytiri's. 🙂

Hey, I better post this quickly too, as you seem to be sitting in front of your computer right now. 😉

Thank you so very very much, Meisan!!! I can't even express how much I love these new drawings!

Hey, good morning, Meisan. 🙂 It's 10am in United Kingdom just now, which must mean it's something like 5pm there in Thailand. 🙂 Well then, good afternoon to you! 🙂

I'm so happy to hear that book is useful to you. 🙂 It doesn't contain a great many pictures, but it's neatly organised and structured, and the descriptions of various plants, animals, culture characteristics and artifacts are priceless! 🙂 I bought it, because it allows me to “live the movie” even while I'm not watching it – I keep listening to “Avatar” soundtrack as well. I guess I'm totally hyped up. And my wife too! 🙂

Please feel free to go ahead whichever way you feel is best, at the current stage. I totally adore your b&w – you have an incredible style when it comes to using b&w shades. The newest Avatar1_23.jpg is such a beautiful piece! I'd love to see the other two made in this way! 🙂

Thank you so much for being so generous, Meisan. I really appreciate it. My address is indeed what PayPal shows you.

I think manga style is quite popular outside East Asia. I know that it is very popular in United States and I'm sure it's loved by young folk here in United Kingdom as well. Though it's mostly anime what's really renowned outside East Asia.
Me, I grew up on lots of anime movies and TV series imported from Japan. I also studies Japanese for a couple of years and soon will have a Master's Degree in Cross-Cultural Psychology (East Asian specialization). 😉 So, as you can see, there's a multitude of reasons why I enjoy your gallery that much. 🙂

I'm happy to see a talented artist, like yourself, being able to live solely on her talent and artistic work. That's very encouraging. In US or UK the living costs are horrendous, so most artists have to have a day job and pursue their passions only in their “free time”, which makes it more like a hobby than anything else. So you're the lucky one, Meisan – and I'm very happy for you! 🙂

Ahh, and speaking about living costs in Thailand – I am really looking forward to visiting the country in the future. 🙂 Maybe thanks to the currency exchange rate I and my wife could afford a couple of weeks stay (after the airplane ticket dries out our budget).

Hmm, you're right. What we really need is a mask – the rest of the hardware doesn't really have to be that much visible. The most important thing is to ensure that poor Jake won't suffocate, ha ha!! 🙂

Oh, please, do not worry at all about the time you post at. You're one of the most regular and timely persons I've ever corresponded with! Simply do it at your convenience – I'll be happy to see replies from you whenever you can post them leisurely. 🙂
Okay, time for me to get ready to go to work. 🙂 Ahh, I'd love to be a freelancer one day too! I'm a writer in heart – but I've never published anything yet. Maybe when I grow old?… 😉

“Exopacks on! Exopacks on!” – I can nearly hear that seargant from the beginning of the movie shout in my head. So the exopack's on now. Brilliant. Great job on it too! 🙂 It looks just perfect.

Whoo, we have the second pic already in development! My goodness, Meisan, you're a speed demon! 🙂 Yaay! Thank you!
And it's so exciting!!! 🙂 My goodness, I just ADORE the background you chose! That branch, the rock arches in the distance, the mountains and the birds… It's breathtaking!

You've also done a terrific job with the poses of both characters. That squat Neytiri's doing is AMAZING!!! And I really love that perspective you employed for Neytiri's left hand. Woow, this is going to look so wonderful! Actually, it already looks wonderful!!

My only suggestion at this stage is to maybe work a little bit more on Neytiri's right eye. (left from our point of view, but right physically). If you cover that eye with your finger or something and then imagine how the hidden eye could look like, then remove your finger… something looks a little bit odd, I think. Not overly, but just a little bit.
I'm thinking – maybe you could slightly enlarge and lift that eye??

Apart from this my only other thought is – you're doing a terrific job, my friend! 🙂 Keep working on it because it's a real masterpiece! This image alone, when finished, will sell you hundreds of prints at your shop, trust me on it!!! 🙂

Dear,Pawel sorry for reply late, yesterday and the day before I go out hospital with mother.
I'm glad that you like the result I will fix up thing you've recommend in next update:).
Thankyou for mention about selling print haha, anyway for commission work I'll not sell print for my own profit because I want it one of a kind to client :D~If I selling print it must be a personal work.

I've already watch 2nd time of movie now in 3d digital, the ticket price is higher than normal but it's worth.I enjoy the show, I love Naytiri more.I enjoy the world of pandora.(Papa dragon is also cool haha)Especially when continue to read the book after the show.I've read somany review about the movie also. From my opinion Avatar is quite entertaining movie, and there're some thought and attitude behind it such as make people want to save the world and natural or others idea as well.

For the next step is 3rd piece I think Jake will sitting at hammock.I'm not sure about Jake mask,Do you think I should add Jake mask?but I think for normally Jake should wear mask in pandora or he'll die@_@.

talking about visiting Thailand If you came please notice me so may be we can hang out :).I would like to see you and your wife in a person also.
For your occupation good luck Pawel.I 'm really believe that if you stick to what you love then you'll be happy and income will follow.I hope you success in what you 're going to do .CHeer my friend~!

Oh my goodness, a hospital? I hope everything is okay? Best wishes of health and wellbeing to your mother!!!

Wow, I appreciate the idea of my having the only piece (well the only three pieces) of this gorgeous work, but are you sure? A unique and incredibly gorgeous set of “Avatar” artworks is definitely something I had in mind for my wife's birthday. 😉

I'm so happy to hear you watched it in 3D! The effect is only deeper, isn't it? And watching movie for the second time always lets you notice all the details you may have missed the first time. Us, we've already seen it 5 times and I still keep noticing new, tiny, fascinating details. 🙂 I absolutely agree, “Avatar” is very thought-provoking and in our politically “correct” world, smothered by industralization and natural disasters a message like this definitely should be heard and talked about. 🙂 So it's only natural that the movie has already earned a whole lot over one billion dollars. In a few weeks time it will become the biggest movie of all times (right now it's second only to “Titanic”.

Hammock is a great idea. But you're right, poor Jake would die without a mask, unless in a pressurized indoors area where Pandoran air is filtered by ventilation systems. And in a building like this Neytiri probably wouldn't be able to breathe without some kind of filter mask, so it's either one way or another, until Jake reclaims his Avatar body. 😉
So my thought is – put the mask on. The design doesn't conceal much of the face and mask's being there reminds us of the huge gap between our world and the world of the Na'vi. 😉

I'm wondering though – we already have sad Neytiri on artwork no.: 1 and battle-ready Neytiri on artwork no.: 2. Perhaps on artwork no.: 3 she should have a more romantic facial expression? She could be looking down at Jake in her arms, smiling and longing to kiss him. What do you think? Or she could be looking back at us, like on your initial sketch, but perhaps with a more relaxed, smiling expression?
Well, these are just thoughts. 🙂

Oh, and Meisan, take your time, okay? Don't worry at all about late replies – life, and especially hospital visits, are far more important.

Yes, that's a must. It probably won't happen this year, maybe even not in 2011, but someday we'll definitely visit Thailand and then we must indeed meet! 🙂 I will let you know, rest assured. 😉
Thank you very much for your thoughts and words – heh, but now it's time to go back to my day jon. 😉 Take care and talk to you soon!

    มกราคม 21, 2010 at 12:42 pm

Thankyou for worrying about me and my mom :)I've said to my mom and she's really appreciate for your kind word.My mother had suffer from diabetes and heart disease she have to inject insulin, but currently she's quite O.K ,I mean she's look like normal who didn't have any illness (just pain around chess sometimes and everyday had to inject insulin)

oh,sure 🙂 I'm glad that it will be unique gift.~!

Yah the movie quite wonderful in 3d digital it's not very deep like 3d cartoon animation but it have seperate in layer and have dimension.I can absorb more feeling when watching 3d version, and it's quite cool about idea behind the movie.

For your idea I think it's fantastic about having Ney'tiri in romantic feeling.I'll try to make that. in 3rd piece.
It look like a bit different from sketch version though.

about your dayjob goodluck also :)~!

oh yah another thing is I agree about Jake mask.

  • paweldaruk
    มกราคม 21, 2010 at 3:42 pm

It's good that your mother has a daughter who can be around to look after her, just in case it gets worse (which, hopefully, it'll never). And diabetes, even though being a serious condition, is treatable and steady, if the insulin injections are regular and lifestyle balanced. But you surely already know all this and more. 😉
I hope everything will only progress towards the better for your mother and yourself, Meisan. 🙂

Yes, exactly! What James Cameron did was adding the additional layer (or a couple of them) of background, providing us with a depth of field. You don't really get spears flying out of the screen, as that might annoy some audience. Instead, you get an immersive spectacle where you very much feel being a part of what's going on.
I always feel like I'm flying on those ikran and interacting with the Na'vi around me during clan gatherings. 😉

Heey, so, as I said, take your time and I'm truly looking forward for the next update. 🙂 Many thanks for all your time and consideration, Meisan. 🙂

My goodness, Meisan, what a marvellous update! You have indeed jumped couple of stages up, but for the right reason! This image, this gorgeous and incredibly exciting artwork made my jaw totally drop! 🙂 It's amazing!!!
The composition, poses, emotions in it… I love it with all my heart! 🙂 You've come up with a truly beautiful conclusion to the trio of artworks. Ahh, I love it so much!!! Neytiri looks absolutely amazing, her body, her face, all the details… WOW! And Jake looks perfect too! Goodness, it's truly fantastic! 🙂

Please, choose the style you feel will fit best the entire trio of images. I trust you completely and I am very happy that you're enjoying this assignment as much as you are. I like the art nouveau borders but I also like other styles, so I leave it all in your hands.
This image is very scenic, so it's a powerful and gorgeous sight on its own. 😉

Ah, you have literally made my day today with this update. I can go to sleep a happy man today. 🙂 Thank you so very very much!!! I'm really grateful, Meisan. This is all so beautiful!!!

Meisan, this is absolutely amazing! 🙂 Another stage of your work in progress and yet another incredible advancement. 🙂 Those colours are more than beautiful – they're ideal. The artwork looks all the more fabulous, refined and oh just so gorgeous!!! 🙂 I love what you've done with the background, adding another layer of depth of field and all those fantastic shades of blue. This is a true masterpiece – a genuine, grand work of a genius!!! I loooove it!!!!!

Ahh, great job indeed. Many many thanks, my friend. 🙂 It's absolutely lovely.

I keep finding myself totally amazed be each and every step in the creation process of your art. There i thought the image number 1 was nearly complete and you just made another huge step forward, bringing it all the more towards excellence! It looks even more amazing now, with those gorgeous details and added depth – shadows and texture. Wow, it's truly an outstanding piece! You've done a great job on it, my friend!!!

    มกราคม 30, 2010 at 6:29 pm

So here we are. The first image's done. 🙂
I could comment on the final touches you've just added, to make it look as amazing as it does, but I guess I'd be repeating myself.

Instead, please allow me to comment on the picture in general. It feels as if we've walked a long way to get to this awesome beauty, but in real it's just been 3 weeks and most of that time you've worked on all three images from the set, starting from the very basic stage of looking for the best poses and composition up to the most precise adjustments of the tiniest details.

My goodness, Meisan, let me just say again how exciting it is to watch you at work. I knew this image – the entire trio of artworks that you're designing – would be grand, and yet you've managed to amaze me, amaze totally.
This is a real work of art and I'm delighted beyond words to receive it. The picture is saying what I wanted it to say. It's what I imagined it could be. It's an absolute world class professional work with a touch of personal magic.
I couldn't be happier with it. It's magnificent and I feel honoured I get to see it and to own it. From the poses through the expressions, the colours and the shadows, emotions and atmosphere, background and all those details – you've done more than a great job. You made a piece of stunning art!

Knowing that this is the first sibling in a family of three I really can't wait to see them together, next to each other. That will be awesomeness incarnate!!!

  • paweldaruk
    กุมภาพันธ์ 4, 2010 at 6:22 pm

Meisan, you've chosen an AMAZING colour palette for this artwork! I absolutely love it! It was a gread idea – and I can imagine how difficult it must have been to come up with something than beautiful.
But you're doing great. Trust me. You're doing wonderful. This is a gorgeous sunset and I believe it will complement the remaining two pictures fantastically. We're gonna have a jungle-day theme in the first pic, a sunset in the second pic, and a romantic night in the third. Excellent. Absolutely terrific. 🙂

Say, remember I asked you about Neytiri's right eye some two weeks ago – that maybe you could make it slightly bigger? I imagine it might be too late to do this now, with the colours already on the picture. Plus, I'm not overly sure if it's needed – when I look at the picture from certain angles, it looks perfectly fine. 😉 So it's most probably just a matter of perspective and POV, and my not being too perceptive. 😉 The colours really brought up the 3D effect and that helped that eye too look well. 🙂

Anyway, this is a truly outstanding job and I strongly believe it's going in the perfect direction. So I'll leave you to it and please accept my sincere thanks for your hard and beautiful work.
    I'm much obliged, Meisan!

    Many thanks!!!

Wow!!! Amazing, truly amazing! 🙂 You really work fast, Meisan. It's not just some details – it looks like you've refined the entire picture.
The eye looks perfect now, thank you very much. Both of them look perfect – very lovely and very lively. 🙂
Goodness me, I really adore this artwork. And the colours are simply phenomenal! 🙂

Heey, but take a look at all those details! 🙂 All the wee feathers Neytiri's wearing and the texture of her braids – I really love this. I also love the way you draw grass – looks fantastic. A random thought – are you going to cover up Neytiri's right breast a little bit?
Hee hee, Jake looks very cool as well, he's definitely up to something. 😉

Meisan, this is a fantastic step forward and I can't tell you how happy I am with the results. You're the best!
    Many thanks!!!

Your updates, your amazing drawings and kind comments, always make me happy, Meisan! 🙂 They make my day whenever they happen! 🙂

Whoo, now this is a fascinating vid. Very educational. Wish I could do the same, draw like this, operate software like this. But one can learn from videos like this, and try to follow. 😉 Many thanks for the excellent youtube entry, my friend!!

    Cool music!! 🙂
It's a fascinating vid, really, watching you work. Browsing through the Photoshop tools, adjusting small details, working the layers. Very impressing. One could learn a lot from the way you work! 🙂
I've always thought that the hardest part in painting is coming up with a decent sketch – but it seems the biggest work comes after this. Very educational, truly.

I'm delighted to be able to watch the master at work as I should polish my own Photoshop skills as well. I do some 3D CG graphics from time to time and editing them in Photoshop afterwards is a necessity.
Ah, good to see you at work, Meisan!!! 🙂

    กุมภาพันธ์ 10, 2010 at 10:38 pm

Brilliant artwork. Absolutely masterful! 🙂 It's gorgeous and very exciting – an action piece full of passion, full of Pandora's magic, with our duo showing off their warrior natures.
Excellent dynamics, beautiful presentation. The colour palette completes the combat scene and is a work of art all on its own.

I absolutely adore all the tiny details – the necklace and bracelets, all the Na'vi skin dots, Neytiri's hair and even things like her fingernails. I especially love Neytiri's feral expression – truly shows off her spirit.

Meisan, this is the second of the three artworks and truly, it's as great as the first one. They definitely look amazing next to each other. Magnificent work, my friend. Thank you so very much!

Do keep up the fantastic work, Meisan. We have on more picture to go and I cannot wait to see the colour in that third one. 🙂

    กุมภาพันธ์ 17, 2010 at 1:52 am

    Hiya Meisan! 🙂
Quite honestly, this one might just be my favourite of the three! I love it with all my heart!!! 🙂

The colour palette you chose is very true to the reference material and also corresponds perfectly with the two previous pics: the blue and the pink/fiery. Amazing work on those floating seeds – the lighting looks pure magic and very much alive. Great job on the hammock too!
Ah, goodness me, those floating seeds are something truly “very pure spirits”! 🙂 You made them look incredible! The entire atmosphere of the artwork is just what you said you'd do. Ideal piece to join the two we already have. Masterful work, Meisan!!!! 🙂

  • paweldaruk
    กุมภาพันธ์ 21, 2010 at 1:39 am

Beautiful. The finishing touches gave even more life to both characters. Ah, and I totally love that idea you had to keep everything lit by the floating seeds – both Neytiri and Jake are dark-purple thanks to it, the natural colour difference of human and Na'vi bodies no longer affects their intimacy. 🙂
As I said, this is quite surely my favourite within the trio, although all three picture are by all means fantastic and very successful. Perfect job, Meisan!! 🙂
Thank you so very very much!!! 🙂 Now this is really exciting: as soon as you forward me the tiff version of the third artwork and confirm that all three are indeed finished to your satisfaction, I'll hurry up to my neighbourhood print shop to get these nicely printed. And then the only remaining thing will be to frame them! Wheeeeee!!!! 🙂
